Faced with a toxic work culture, burnout, and discrimination, Seattle-based nonprofit workers find a way to heal from the oppressive dynamics that have perpetuated the nonprofit structure for far too long.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT AND BIO
Amy L. Piñon
Amy L. Piñon (she/her) is an accomplished filmmaker, photographer, audio engineer, and vocalist based in Seattle, Washington, on Duwamish Land.
She specializes in creating a comfortable atmosphere for storytellers to share their most authentic selves in front of the camera, and maintaining a safe and intentional environment behind the camera as well.
Her first feature documentary, “And Other Oppressive Dynamics,” is about healing from the cycle of nonprofit harm, and won Best Feature Documentary at the Local Sightings Film Festival in 2022.
Her thoughtful and ethical storytelling approach has influenced the visual media for all types of individuals and organizations including Washington Ensemble Theatre, Velocity, Gay City, Shunpike, Desautel Hege (DH), the Office of Arts and Culture, and many more.
She is also a clay artist, amateur illustrator, and mentors young artists in vocal technique with Totem Star, while making time to sing daily as a healing practice.
